Rykneld Primary School, situated in Burton-on-Trent, started out with a 20 year old felt system that held a concerning amount of water across it's 800m2 total roof area. It was ready for an insulation and waterproofing upgrade to extend the lifespan and improve the standing water conditions.
Working closely with BMI Icopal, a self adhesive felt specification was drawn up to accomodate the School's safety concerns with the use of hot works. To keep costs down, flat insulation boards were hand tapered to form falls within newly formed gutters. This alleviated most of the standing water issues the roof was previously having.
Working with self adhesive felts during the cold seasons always proves challenging. But despite this, and other set backs caused by Covid-19 and material shortages, Midland Roofing completed within the programmed time frame.
